Top: The American airship ZR 3 Los Angeles flying near the Empire State Building under construction. The Zeppelin, built as LZ 126, is accompanied by some blimps. New York, the United States of America, 29 October 1930.

Bottom:  Zeppelin interior dining room

Only one of the American zeppelins/airships that didn’t meet a disastrous end. The Akron, Macon and Shenandoah all crashed. Los Angeles was decommissioned and dismantled.

The airships in the first photo look like a carrier and two fighter escorts. If that’s true, the second photo is of the poshest accommodations imaginable for the fledgling United States Air Defense Force’s flagship war zeppelins.
